A blog about writing, reading, travelling and great characters I meet in life. I love these things more than cheese-on-toast times trampolines times monkeys.

Ooops, there's an elephant coming down the stairs

...And this is why I am in love with India

Meet Lakshmi, the temple elephant at Virupashka temple in Hampi, India.

Here she is giving out her blessing to a group of Indian pilgrims, visiting the UNESCO World Heritage site of Hampi.

I love her feet that support her enormous body...

And here's Lakshmi heading through the back of the temple to the river.

Uh-oh, 50 steep stairs to come down - look out, elephant coming!

But the steps are no problem for Lakshmi, she does this everyday...

'Oh yay, nice cool water,' Lakshmi says. She loves splashing about in the river in Hampi.

Now time to lie down - it'll take a few moves to get there...ONE...

TWO...

THREE...

FOUR...

FIVE...

SIX...

SEVEN...

Now time to get clean with a splash...

..and a scrub...

...it's thirsty work for Lakshmi's keepers...

Ooops, bathtime's over...

...not for this family though - they're still splashing...

Lakshmi finishes off with a DIY shower...

Watch out boys and girls! It's the Lakshmi POWER SHOWER!!!

Lakshmi is one part of the magic of Hampi and the way the local community here provide a safe and beautiful place for visitors to stay.

So I was horrified to discover that the Indian government have already started to demolish this community.
